The
self-proclaimed administration of 'Luhansk People's Republic' passed the law
that allows the local police to detain people for 60 days. This may occur if
the particular individual is a suspect in a 'crime against LNR's state
security.' The respective amendment was submitted to the bill about the martial
law.
'A person may be
put in preventive detention for up 30 days - in case he/she undergoes
respective checks for involvement in a crime, which threatens the Republic's
security. The term may be extended up to 60 days', the amendment says.
'LNR' (LPR) is a
breakaway non-recognized state in eastern Ukraine's Luhansk region. It appeared
in April 2014, after the forceful seizure of power by local separatists.
Intensive military actions between them and Ukrainian government troops have
been going on ever since.
